The Long and the Short of it
People starting to meditate often ask how long they should be spending at the practice…
So, we know from research and hopefully from personal experience that meditation has lots of benefits. Lower stress levels, better focus and deeper sleep among many.
The largest bank of research in this area is on the Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) program developed by John Kabat-Zinn at the University of Massachusetts Center for Mindfulness. This 8-week course recommends 40/45 minutes of practice six days a week and has amazing results.
On the other hand, there is also research showing that just 10 minutes of meditation per day has significant benefits. Not only that, but 10 minutes a day is possible for all of us. It might take a few schedule adjustments, but it can be done. So, 10 minutes might be a good place to start…
